What level of English do I need to attend Allan Hancock College?
Allan Hancock College requires applicants for admission from foreign countries to present evidence that they have sufficient proficiency in the use of the English language to ensure proper progression in a collegiate course of study.

Satisfactorily passing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), periodically administered in the student's home country by the Educational Testing Service.  A score of 475 on the paper test, 153 on the computerized test or 53 on the Internet-based test is required for admission.  For more information on the TOEFL, visit their website, at www.TOEFL.com.    To report the TOEFL score to Allan Hancock College, please use code 4002.  The TOEFL requirement may be waived for those students where English is the official language of the country of citizenship.  

How soon do I need to have my completed application and supporting material sent to Allan Hancock College?
Application deadlines for admission are May 1 for the following fall semester and November 1 for the following spring semester. Application materials must be complete before the college can issue the I-20 for international students. Students must then have time to secure an F-1 visa and complete their travel arrangements.

Where do students live?
Allan Hancock College has no on-campus housing. Apartments or single rooms are generally available in the city of Santa Maria, where the campus is located. An estimate of costs is listed below. It is the student's responsibility to find housing.

How do I get to Santa Maria, California?
Santa Maria is located in the beautiful Central Coast region of California, approximately 170 miles north of Los Angeles and 260 miles south of San Francisco. Regular bus and rail service is available from either city. The Santa Maria Airport is a community airport and has flights daily to and from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

How much money will I need to attend Allan Hancock College?
You will need approximately $23,000(US) to cover the costs of one school year of nine months, including food and housing. Allan Hancock College requires the submission of a confidential statement of finances and documentation from a bank certifying that funds are available.

Can I have a job while I study at Allan Hancock College?
If you have an F-1 visa, you can work up to 20 hours per week on campus while classes are in session. During vacation periods, you can work up to 40 hours per week on-campus. Work off-campus can only be arranged if there is an unforeseen economic necessity or if you are gaining work experience in your field of study. Consult with a foreign student advisor for more complete information.  Please note that income received from any on-campus employment may not be included in your calculations for financial support.

F-2 status holders are never eligible for employment authorization.
