Kam Jacoby : Retrospective

The groups of work are selections from over 40 years of photography. The earliest images here are from 1983. I started working with printmaking (silkscreen, etching, woodcut, etc…) as a Fine Arts undergraduate in the late 1970’s, then returned to school to get a more “practical” degree in Graphic Design. As a requirement for that program I took a photography class and began to spend most of my free time in the darkroom. I loved how quickly I could make images and work through ideas. Some projects here were completed in a matter of hours or days, others have gone on for years. Many of the basic ideas and themes re-emerge periodically in different forms and in different bodies of work. With each project I try to give myself simple parameters (what camera to use, film or digital, geographic area, etc…) to create a manageable framework in which to explore. Teaching has provided me with the joy and inspiration of working with students and colleagues, and has provided a degree of freedom to pursue whatever ideas capture my attention.

The Ann Foxworthy Gallery is located inside the Academic Resource Center, bldg. L on the Santa Maria campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m
