ALTERNATIVE FORMATS AND MEDIA
Alternative formats and media refer to an alternative format of textbooks and handouts. Alternative formats most commonly include e-text, large print, and Braille. An LAP Counselor or Specialist needs to approve this accommodation.
E-Text or Kurzweil (KESI)
Kurzweil is a web-based reader with a cloud based library that is free for students approved for the accommodation. Students can import documents from Google Drive, Bookshare, and your computer. The program will allow you to highlight text during reading.
Braille
Braille is a system of raised dots that can be read with the fingers by students who are blind or who have low vision. Tactile graphics are raised lines and surfaces used to convey non-textual information and may include tactile representations of maps, graphs, diagrams, and other images.
The LAP Alternative Media Specialist assists students with their braille and tactile graphics requests.
Large Print
Large print (also referred to as large type or large font) refers to the formatting of print material in a font size that is considerably larger than usual to accommodate students who have low vision.
The LAP Alternative Media Specialist assists students with their large print requests.
