Book Club

book clubThe goal of the Teaching & Learning book club is to encourage faculty to take a deep dive into andragogy practices.  Selected books will focus on enhancing teaching and learning through student engagement, DEIA awareness, and tangible changes faculty can incorporate.

Each book club will meet twice (about two weeks apart) to discuss their key take aways and share strategies and insights.  Book club meeting dates and times are TBD.  Please fill out this survey using the link below to let us know if you're interested in participating and preferred meeting time.

Books will be provided for the first 15 participants.

Current Book Club Selection 

"Teaching Across Cultural Strengths"  by Alicia Fedelina Chávez and Susan Diana Longerbeam.

This book provides a deep dive into the cultural dynamics of teaching and learning. It emphasizes how educators can leverage cultural strengths to foster effective instruction."
 
Meeting Dates: 
We will discuss the first half of the book on:
      • March 26th at 4:00 PM on zoom*
      • March 28th at 9:00 AM in person C-28
We will discuss the remaining ½ of the book on:
      • April 9th @ 4:00 PM on zoom*
      • April 11th at 9:00 AM in person, C-28

upcoming book club

"Small Teaching" by James M. Lang 

This book focuses on small, practical changes that faculty can make to enhance teaching and learning. It draws from research on learning and cognitive science.

Meetings:

  • Dates: April 21st and May 5th
  • Time: 3:00-4:30 PM
  • Location: C-28 & zoom*
