When You See a Fire

  • Dial 911 and carefully give specific location, e.g., west side of building “A”.  From your cell phone call Santa Maria Police Dispatch 925-2631, or Lompoc Police Dispatch 736-4511

  • For a fire that appears to be controllable, get the fire extinguisher and direct the charge of the fire extinguisher toward the base of the flame. Get help if necessary.

  • On fires that are not immediately controllable and if using the extinguisher is not successful, exit the building by using the closest exit and close all doors as you go.

  • Ensure affected facilities and/or occupancies have been fully vacated.

  • Do not open any doors that are hot or have smoke seeping out of them.

  • Move to a clear area outside at least 150 feet away from the affected area. Keep the walkways clear for emergency vehicles.
