- Know the location of fire extinguishers in your area and how to use them.
- Know the location of the fire alarm.
When You See a Fire
- Dial 911 and carefully give specific location, e.g., west side of building “A”. From your cell phone call Santa Maria Police Dispatch 925-2631, or Lompoc Police Dispatch 736-4511
- For a fire that appears to be controllable, get the fire extinguisher and direct the
charge of the fire extinguisher toward the base of the flame. Get help if necessary.
- On fires that are not immediately controllable and if using the extinguisher is not
successful, exit the building by using the closest exit and close all doors as you
go.
- Ensure affected facilities and/or occupancies have been fully vacated.
- Do not open any doors that are hot or have smoke seeping out of them.
- Move to a clear area outside at least 150 feet away from the affected area. Keep the walkways clear for emergency vehicles.
FACULTY:

- Vacate your class to a gathering place, which you designate.
- Take roll or a head count when you’ve reached the designated area.
SUPERVISORS:

- Meet with instructor to confirm all students are out of the area of danger.
- Do not enter a building that has just been on fire.
- Meet with the fire official in charge and answer all pertinent questions and follow all orders.
- All fires must be reported to AHC Police Department and Plant Services. Report discharged fire extinguishers to Plant Services for recharging.

If you have been asked to vacate, do not return to a building until told to do so by the AHC police department personnel or the administrator in charge.
