Infection Control Certificate Course
Infection Control in Dentistry
This one-day (8-hour) course is limited to 12 students and is designed to train dental assistants in current OSHA and CDC infection control standards. The curriculum covers modes of disease transmission, prevention of HBV and HIV, medical safety, sterilization procedures, surface disinfection, and compliance with chemical hazard regulations.
This course fully satisfies the requirements of California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 16, Section 1005, governing Dental Board of California infection control training. California law requires dentist-employers to provide infection control training for all unlicensed dental assistants.
Under current California law, unlicensed dental assistants must successfully complete this 8-hour course before performing any basic supportive dental procedures involving potential exposure to blood, saliva, or other infectious materials. The previous one-year grace period from the date of employment was eliminated effective January 1, 2025, under SB 1453.
This course meets that requirement and is open to all community members seeking employment as an unlicensed dental assistant or those needing to fulfill the state's infection control training requirement.
This course is offered on an as-needed basis.
